Rishikesh, June 4, 2015: A group of students aged 15-18 years convened at Snow Leopard’s Camp Panther in Shivpuri, Rishikesh for a Flying Fox experience, but this was no ordinary gathering.
This Flying Fox Zip Tour was a part of the Planet Harmony programme which seeks to integrate students from politically disturbed areas of our country in the mainstream and to help them become ambassadors of harmony and development. Snow Leopard Adventures partnered with Flying Fox to ensure that all participants got to have the time of their lives free of charge on our zip wires across the mighty Ganges.
Planet Harmony reaches out to children from areas such as Jammu and Kashmir, Naxal-affected areas and the North-Eastern states, and encourages them to have a positive impact on their communities. The plan is to help the children build an environment conducive to friendship, integrity and development. The credo of Planet Harmony is ‘From Conflict to Harmony,’ wherein the aim is to use the medium of the Great Outdoors and soft adventure sports to hone the participants’ communication, team-building and leadership skills.
Over the duration of Planet Harmony, participants were immersed in seminars and involved in projects alongside soft adventurous activities. The programme is conducted annually at Snow Leopard’s camp in Rishikesh- a scenic, safe and secure location in which the young adults can learn and flourish.
The scope of the programme does not end with the adventure outing. Planet Harmony conducts a post-programme ‘project’ and follow-up component to give participants an education grant once they start their project. During the course of the programme, the faculty emphasizes values-based leadership development and encourages participants to be thinking citizen volunteers.
